About The Project
The Datai, is a 120 rooms super deluxe hotel on the exotic resort island of Langkawi, northern Malaysia. The Datai is a symbiosis between terrain and built form, tradition and tourism, vernacular styles and Modernism.
The architect was involved from the outset in selecting the 750-hectare site, which includes a beach, untouched rainforest and a sensitive ecosystem of swamps, streams and wildlife.
The development blends well with its natural surrounding and extensive use of timber and other natural material is made throughout the resort. The project was awarded the Award of Distinction for Resort Development by the International Real Estate Federation (FIABCI) Malaysia in 1994 and the Aga Khan Award for Architecture in 2001.
